How Much Does A Tiger Weigh

Tigers are the biggest cats on the planet and are one of the supreme predators in our world. They are amazing hunters because of the size, intelligence, and agility that they possess naturally. A full grown male Bengal Tiger can weigh up to 600 pounds, while other species weigh a good amount less. Therefore, it is hard to answer the question of how much does a Tiger weigh without knowing which species we are talking about.

Of the ten known Tiger species known to have roamed the planet, only six remain. Loss of land, food, and the inability to coincide with humans has primarily led to this demise. For these same reasons, the life expectancy of a full grown Tiger has also dropped. This is important, when talking about Tiger weight, because it shows that they are not getting as big as they could be getting. It is believed that male Bengal Tigers regularly grew to over 900 pounds in the wild at one point in time.

Tigers are designed to be one of the best killing machines on the planet. They are as big as a family car and heavier than three full grown male adults. You do not want to meet a tiger in the jungle, unless you want your wife to cash in on that life insurance policy! These animals can eat up to 60 lbs. of food in a single serving if the prey is large enough.

This had turned them into one of the most dominant symbols in the world. Having a stuffed Tiger or a Tiger pelt is thought to show someone that you are dominant. Over the years, poachers have quickly dwindled the populations from hundreds of thousands to less than four thousand this year. This factor has a huge influence on the question of ‘how much does a Tiger weigh’ because they just aren’t getting as large as they were able to one hundred years ago.

In recent years, all of the countries where Tigers still remain have joined forces to ensure that these majestic animals survive the current decline. They have vowed to double the amount of Tigers in the next 10 years and have already reversed the trend. We are happy to see that they care enough to make an effort to reverse the damage humans have done.

How Much Does A Bengal Tiger Weigh

Bengal Tigers are the second heaviest wild cat species in existence. They are also the most common Tiger species left in existence. They account for more than half of the Tiger population remaining in the wild.

A full grown male Bengal Tiger has an average weight of 600 lbs., while a female will stay in the range of 300 lbs. Of course, that is just an average and scientists have discovered animals that are well outside of that range. Siberian Tigers in the more rural areas of Nepal, Bhutan, and Assam consistently produce Tigers that are over 500 lbs.

How Much Does A Siberian Tiger Weigh

When it comes to Siberian Tiger weight, it is important to note that the average weight has dropped significantly over the past 50 years.   The average weight for a full grown male is in the range of 500 lbs. and females average 300 lbs. As with the other Tiger species, there are rare occasions when Tigers are discovered that are way outside of that range.

Siberian Tigers are the largest wild cat species, just a little bigger than Bengal Tigers. These Tigers are native to the east cost of Russia, but conservation efforts are looking to expand that small habitat back into parts of China. Recent studies estimate that there are less than 600 Siberian Tigers remaining in the wild.

They are bult to hunt every day

Indochinese Tiger

These tigers are very rare, with an estimated 400 left in the wild. They are native to the moutainous regions of southern Asia. Male Indochinese tigers average weights of 400 lbs. Thier female counterparts will be in the range of 250 lbs. when they are full grown.

Malayan Tiger

Scientist just discovered that this species is not genetically the same as Indochinese species. It is estimated that their are less than 400 of this species remaining in the wild. They are much smaller than the other species, with adult males weighing just over 200 lbs. and females weighing half of that.

South China Tiger

The South China tiger is one of the 20 most endangered animals on the planet. There have not been any confirmed sightings of this species in over 25 years. When it comes to tiger weight, males will be in the range of 400 lbs. and females average 240 lbs.

What About The Other Species?

The other Tiger species are much less common than Siberian and Bengal Tigers. So if you are asking “how much does a Tiger weigh?”, then you are probably talking about one of these two species. The other species are much smaller and account for less than 10% of the total Tiger population.
